Project: User Interface Design for Flex AIR Kiosk Application
Project Type: Freelance/Contract (4 month turn-around)
Client: Next K12 Cafe - POS Solution provider for school lunch rooms.

Challenge:
Design a User Interface for a touch screen kiosk built on Adobe Flex AIR Technology. Next K12 had a logo, and a concept for an application scratched out on a whiteboard, that needed to be brought to life.

Next K12 needed to transfer those concepts into a Branded UI that users could literally touch. The UI Design needed to be usable for a female 50 plus user group. Buttons and text needed to be big and easily accessible.

Solution:
The concepts were immediately moved into wireframes to provide user case/workflow scenarios. Full page wireframes of individual screens were drawn up, so Next K12 could print them out and get them in front of the end users to test workflow and gather improvements to the usability.

Upon receiving the feedback, Photoshop mock-ups were created for each of the main screens.

After approval, the UI Design elements were then transferred into Flex Builder 3.0 as skinned/styled components. The up, over, down, and disabled states were created for each button and applied to the working application during the development process. The application was worked on simultaneously by a telecommute team based in multiple locations. Updates were made via Subversion.

A combination of Flex styles and Flex skins were applied to every component used within the application.

Results:
The application has been put into production and is now been demo'd across the U.S.
